YOUNG GUN TAKES OUT U12 GOLF AUSTRALIA ROOKIE SERIES EVENT
One of our very own young golfing stars took home an Under 12’s Golf Australia Victorian Rookie Series event held at Edithvale Golf Course over the weekend.
Jack Wilson, coached by Centenary Park PGA accredited professional — Scott McDermott, added to his growing list of triumphs with a commanding four-stroke victory over the rest of the field.
Out of the 20 boys aged 9-11 who competed in the tournament, Jack was the only player who managed to shoot the par score (31) on the day. Starting the event with a bogey on the first hole, it was all smooth sailing for Jack from then on; scoring the only birdie on the day with a masterclass on the sixth hole to secure the victory.
Coach McDermott was proud of Jack’s win, stating “Both Jack and I have been working hard on his game over the last month. With change there are a few ups and downs although we have worked through them. So happy with his win today!”
Jack is no stranger to success, being crowned US Kids Golf Tour champion three times as well as being awarded the 2019 Golf Australia Under 9 rookie of the year. It’s fair to say Jack is certainly a name to watch in the golfing world!
The Golf Australia Rookie Series provides the perfect opportunity for children looking for their first competitive experience and is the ideal steppingstone for those who have completed golf clinics and are looking to play events. In the 9-hole competitions, like the one Jack competed in, there are sections for boys and girls aged under 9, 12 and 16, with course distances controlled accordingly.
